the american dream is not attainable to a lot of us. and i really want to know, is the american dream dead for me? >> how in the world do you answer that? it feels -- it feels -- this is the same wall street garbage that has been thrown out there as to why we can't create jobs. let me give you this for an answer. how about $30 billion to community banks around the country loosen up the credit lines, get lending going and let small businesses thrive? well, of course, the republicans have been against that, too. so you see, the american dream isn't dead but it was on life support for a while with, because, you see, the republicans regain power, they are ready to pull the plug to on damn near everything president obama has been able to accomplish. i'm doing everything in my power to stop them and that's why with i will be there october 2nd. hundreds of thousands of americans will flood the mall on october 2nd and join the fight to keep the american dream alive. and it will be more than a feeling. there's facts and figures to go along with everything that's gonna be said from this broadcaster.
that tells you all you need to know. that does it for us. see you to know. that does it for us tonight. we will see you again tomorrow night. "the ed show" is up next. good night. >> good evening, americans, and welcome to "the ed show." tonight from new york, these stories on the table. hitting my hot buttons at this hour. the tea party is taking control of the gop. don't you think? leaders like rush, palin, beck, they're fueling some extremism. and the white house is finally calling them out on it. yay. the naacp is taking action as well, and it's time for all of us to join them, the naacp's hillary shelton and congressman anthony weiner will sound off on all of that in just a moment. president obama just unloaded on the tan man for being the symbol of no. and his fight -- this fight has just begun. he's now got a plan to hammer boehner in his own backyard. i love it. congressman cummings will be here to tee off in that one in the battleground. >>> and a radical right-wing pastor plans burn a koran day on september 11th. general petraeus says it puts our troops in danger. pro
politics anymore. that does it for us tonight. we will see you again tomo night. meanwhile, add to what you see on the show. nds a stern warning. that psycho talking preacher in florida burns the koran, our troops will be in severe danger. but the troop-loving conservatives fueling this nation's islamophobia, they're nowhere to be found. their silence is absolutely deafening and disgusting. >>> and the top progressive group in this country calls rahm emanuel the cancer of the democratic party. the leader who said that joins me. plus jonathan alter predicts what's going to happen if rahm does bolt the white house. >>> this story has had he fired up. president obama went to john boehner's backyard and stuck it to the tan man seven different times in his speech today. here's the president in cleveland. >> there were no new policies from mr. boehner. there were no new ideas. to most of you, i'll bet this just seems like common sense. but not to mr. boehner and his allies. when mr. boehner was here in cleveland, he attacked us for closing a few of these loopholes. mr. boehner and the
taxpayers. this is the same garbage that the republicans used to get us into two off-budget wars and an off-budget medicare prescription drug bill and tax cuts for millionaires that were never accounted for that drove us right into the ditch and into record debt, record foreign debt, record trade deficit, all that good stuff that they try to pin on president obama. i find it more than ironic, john boehner picked a small business to break out his brand-new playbook for america. right after the event passed the house -- the house passed president obama's $30 billion small business bill 237-187 and we should point out that just one republican voted for the bill, just one. republicans are complete frauds when it comes to fixing this economy. they have no plan. there's nothing more american than getting money directly into the hands of small businesses to create jobs and they've been against it. boehner's pledge is filled with tax cuts for the rich, spending cuts to the poor, and it offers nothing to the middle class in the way of job creation, other than a measly tax cut. republicans want to re
be forced to resign by the new congress. >> wow. republicans, well, they warned us that the health care law would turn america socialists, communist, facist and we're still a democracy and a big vote coming up in november. nobody, keep in mind, no one is going to be pulling the plug on grandma tomorrow. and nobody is getting between you and your doctor. here's the president again on that issue. >> you're going to be able to choose your doctor and not have to go through some network in an emergency situation as a consequence of these rules. so it gives customers more choice and more options. >> now, that's the best package we can sell to the american people on this health care bill in just a short period of time here on tv tonight. now, i've been saying that the administration needs to go out and sell what this health care reform actually does for people. and i think the president nailed it today. he hit it out of the park. now he needs to stay on offense. republicans and the tea party are the same thing. there is no difference, and there's no difference in the way that they think when it co
the last several decades. that's it's what has got us into this bankrupt position. >> and what does this say about international intervention? do you want to go down that road, mr. candidate, from alaska. some reason, democrats and focus on the money in just a moment. for some reason the democrats have allowed the conservatives to outmaneuver them when it comes to fiscal responsibility and that whole conversation. keep in mind, i'll say this every night before the rally and every night before the election, we got into this mess under their watch. we got under this mess and damn near went bankrupt because of the hundreds and billions of dollars that we spent on a war and nobody had any idea how we were going to pay for it. these masses tax cuts for the superrich in this country is what has got us where we are. and the congress rubber stamped every dime the former president demanded for the war in iraq, and voted over and over again for the bush tax cuts, and cut deals. i wonder how ben nelson feels about that $18 million he got for homeland security as the they bought his vote so he
